The heart of the DEUX SOLEILS-wines is exclusively produced from vines planted in new soil claimed from the rocks; so called garrigue-vineyards.. The way of developing these grounds was quite new because of the lack of powerful agricultural machinery.
The founders of the Garrigue vineyard of 2 Soleils were uncle land nephew Beaujard, who imigrated from the North of Africa to the Mosson-valley mid sixties.
Only in l960 when heavy machines became available the « garrigues « ( heather full with rocks ) could be claimed. It required heavy labour to create new terraced vineyards and in comparison to the plantations in the valley, was very expensive.
Most of the new reclaimed soil is virgin and extremely fertile.
These soils, that have never been used before have a very big potential.
They are located on the higher slopes of the hills where the vines enjoy perfect exposure to the sun all day. During the evening the big white stones reflect their warmth to the grapes. As the french say "the grapes grow between two suns".
As the nights on the hills are cool the vines get to rest and the vegetation then grows in an absolute balance. A guarantee to conserve the finest aromas and flavours.

The micro-climate here favours a large variety of spicy herbs. The exotic and aromatic atmosphere of the vineyard attracts all kinds of birds and wild animal such as a growing population of wild boar.
The aromatic odour of the exotic herbs is diffused among the grapes by the many butterflies and bees. The taste and bouquet of the Deux Soleils Wines have resulted in a high and long standing reputation of this VINEYARDS. Connoisseur and wine-lovers recognize the wines by the mystical and exotic character.
The chalk, the intense soil and the richness of minerals, are particular to this vineyard. The high alloy of iron here suits the Cabernet and Merlot grapes perfectly. They grow with abundant leafiness.
The vines of the Deux Soleils vineyard have extremly long roots due to the well drained soil full of cobble-stones.
The climate is a bit dryer than lower down in the valley. It is exceptionally sunny and the vineyard is well protected from the August-thunderstorms by the hills. This results in the grapes reaching the cellar in a healthy condition.
The soil in most of the vineyard is stoney and chalky. For young vines it is quite a difficult soil, but the Cabernet and Merlot varieties, in particular, give good results as the roots find their way down.
